There is a version of success that looks impressive from the outside: the title, income, recognition, growth and influence.
And yet the person experiencing it is exhausted.
The life is successful.
The experience of living it isn't.
We rarely question the cost of success.
Meaningful work requires effort.
But effort is not the same as suffering.
There is a difference between:
“This matters, so I am willing to work for it.”
and:
“If this isn't difficult, it can't be valuable.”
The second belief can quietly create an entire life around struggle.
Conscious leadership does not ask people to become less ambitious.
It asks them to become more conscious of what ambition is serving.
Is success creating more freedom, contribution, connection, capacity and possibility?
Or simply more things to manage?
Success should be something you can inhabit.
The question is not:
“How successful can I become?”
Perhaps it is:
“What kind of success allows me to remain fully myself?”
Reflection
Where has achievement become more important than the experience of living the life you are building?
